How discounts work
A percentage discount takes a share of the price; a fixed discount takes a set amount. When several discounts are offered, each one usually applies to the price left after the previous one, which is why stacked discounts are worth less than their sum.
Formulas
- Saving = price × discount ÷ 100
- Sale price = price × (1 − discount ÷ 100)
- Combined discount for two percentages = 1 − (1 − d₁) × (1 − d₂)
